Children & youth grants awarded
07/08
Over $11,000 in grants were distributed for the spring children and youth grant program. Recipients, projects and amounts were:
McPherson Family YMCA, $1200—Responsibility Plan project at each of the three childcare sites focusing on K-6th grade. Each site will define its own responsibility ideas/tasks with regard to three different components: daily site assignments, school/home related, and nutrition/exercise.
McPherson County 4-H, $1500– School Enrichment Program focused six areas of training for K-6th grade students in the county. The areas include ants, butterflies, chick embryology, George Washington Carver, wheat science and technology.
Lincoln Elementary School, $2000– to replace the maps and globes for the elementary school.
K-State Research & Extension, $900— Moola Venture money program. A four-week program to help teach youth about the importance of money management including writing a check, balancing a checkbook, budgeting, managing credit, saving money, and making wise consumer decisions.
Heart to Heart, $1,000—to assist with basic operating expenses as they provide a safe environment for child victims of sexual assault.
McPherson Arts Council, $600—to bring the Wichita Children’s theatre for performances and workshops for middle and high school age students.
Board of Christian Education, St. Peter’s UCC, $1500—The project goal is to provide youth with summer activities and community projects, for example, helping the elderly around the house such as painting, mowing, gardening, etc. The grant will pay for youth scholarships, refreshments, operating costs, resource & activity materials, and transportation.
Good Beginnings Preschool, $1,000—To replace the playground equipment at the preschool and church grounds in order to make the equipment in compliance with safety standards and maintain the requirements for state preschool licensing.
First Presbyterian Church, $1,000— Playground equipment to be located at the church as a community outreach project. The mission of the project is to provide a safe play area for children in the community.
