The McPherson County Community Foundation is pleased to announce a new program entitled “Philanthropist of the Year” to recognize the work of volunteers serving our communities. A philanthropist has been defined as a person who endeavors to help humankind, as by charitable aid or donations.
As each nonprofit works to promote its mission, dedicated volunteers promote philanthropy by working to ensure their success. Directors throughout the county can attest to the time, talents, and treasures volunteers bring to their organizations.

“Each year the community foundation continues to grow because of community residents who understand our mission and are willing to devote the time needed to move it forward,” states Becky Goss, McPherson County Community Foundation Executive Director. “Because of this, our board has recognized we are one of many organizations who succeed because of the true philanthropists and we hope to reward their efforts.”

Organizations are encouraged to complete a brief application nominating volunteers that have worked with them at any level. Information needed for the application includes: what type of volunteer work has the applicant performed, how long, and what qualities make this person a philanthropist?

If the volunteer is selected as the Philanthropist of the Year, the nominating organization will receive a $300 grant to be used for program or operating expenses. The chosen philanthropist and organization will be recognized at the McPherson County Community Foundation’s Recognition Luncheon to be held Thursday, November 13 at 12 pm at The Wellness Center, 1021 Cedars Drive, McPherson.

The postmark deadline for applications is Friday, October 31, 2008. Staff or board members of nonprofit organizations operating in McPherson County may download an application from the Foundation’s website at www.mcphersonfoundation.org/programs.php or email at info@mcphersonfoundation.org.
