The Community Fund is the unrestricted pool of money established by donors who wish to support the community, but would like the community foundation to determine the recipients based on annual community needs. This year, the funds were used to begin the Philanthropist of the Year award.
The award is to recognize the work of volunteers serving our communities. A philanthropist has been defined as a person who endeavors to help humankind, as by charitable aid or donations.
As each nonprofit works to promote their mission, dedicated volunteers promote philanthropy by working to ensure their success. Directors throughout the county can attest to the time, talents, and treasures volunteers bring to their organizations.
This year’s recipient was Jim Loving. He was nominated by the McPherson Family YMCA for his work in helping to raise funds for their capital improvements.
