Summer Lunch Program

06/09

The McPherson County Community Foundation and United Way of McPherson County have teamed up to feed children in McPherson throughout the summer months. The response to the program has been overwhelming and I’m proud to know that McPherson residents do care and are don’t hesitate when asked to help.

Haven’t signed up yet, but want to – here are things we need to keep the program moving:

1. Food shopping: Three to five people are needed to help shop throughout the summer.

2. Donated food is acceptable as long as the items are approved by one of the program directors and is on the list of recommended food items. Call for a recommended food list.

3. Packing weekly grocery bags: Grocery bags will be packed weekly with items for each family participating in the program. An assembly line to package food will be set up at the McPherson County Community Foundation office, 206 S. Main. At 11:00 am each Wednesday. Volunteers will be needed to help package the sacks.

4. Delivery Routes: Once the grocery sacks are packed, they will be delivered to the families. Approximately 10-16 drivers for each route will be needed. The goal is to have the same drivers for the entire summer. We will, however, recruit back-up drivers to cover vacations or other summer activities.
