MCCF receives gift from Home Enterprises, Inc.
05/10
The McPherson County Community Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the receipt of a donor advised gift from Home Enterprises, Inc., Galva. The gift is being used to establish two donor advised funds The Robert Baldwin Family Fund and The Flaherty Family Fund.
Home Communications, Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Home Enterprises, Inc., celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2008. From its humble beginnings with Miles and Blanch Baldwin purchasing the New Gottland Telephone Exchange in 1933, HCI has grown into a technology leader for rural communications.
Now in its fourth generation ownership and management, HCI provides quality telephone service, DSL Internet and cable television to customers in Galva, Canton, Roxbury, Gypsum, Assaria, Mentor, Salemsburg, Falun and Geneseo. In 2008, HCI was the first Telco in Kansas to offer HD Television via the Internet.
A total of nearly $50,000 in grants will be awarded to local organizations annually thanks to these funds. The donors are community minded people and their generosity will have a significant impact on the quality of services charities can provide to our residents, stated Becky Goss, Executive Director. On behalf of the board and staff, we are thrilled Home Enterprises considered the Community Foundation as the appropriate vehicle for administering their charitable giving.
A donor advised fund through the Community Foundation allows the donor to suggest the nonprofit organization to receive grant distributions. Grants may be awarded for operating funds, capital campaigns, capacity building, programs or other budget needs incurred by the charity. Recipients must be a tax exempt organization.
Grants from the Robert Baldwin Family fund will focus on the service area of Home Enterprises. Communities included are Smolan, Falun, Canton, Galva, Assaria, Geneseo, Salemsburg, Bridgeport, Mentor, Roxbury and Gypsum. Grants from the Flaherty Family Fund will focus on organizations located within McPherson County.
All applications for grants from donor advised funds are processed through the Community Foundation office.
