Community Foundation releases over $90,000 in Oct.

The McPherson County Community Foundation board has approved the following grant awards from the ‘Dream Fund’ , the David J. Nutt Fund and the special grants round for Mastermind McPherson County. A total of $92,690 was released from the three funds in Oct.

‘Dream Fund’ awards:

McPherson Resource Council – McPherson County Resource Council Christmas Baskets – $10,000

The McPherson County Resource Council Food Basket program provides non-perishable and perishable food to families in need at Christmas Time.

MPD – McPherson Police Appreciation and Project Event – $2,800

This project will provide a new chest protection plate for each officer serving on the McPherson Police Force.

David J. Nutt Fund awards:

City of Lindsborg – Lindsborg Fire Department Eye Wash & Decontamination Station – $10,000

City staff identified a need to improve the interior area of the Fire Department by putting in a new eye wash and decontamination station for firefighters to use in a controlled environment within the station when returning from hazardous fires.

Central Kansas Conservancy – Meadowlark Trail: McPherson to Lindsborg – $5,000

CKC maintains right of way to 46 miles of rail banked trail, including the 12.6-mile Meadowlark Trail between Lindsborg and McPherson. CKC is seeking funds for the final two miles of trail.

Trinity United Methodist Church of Lindsborg – Fellowship Hall Light replacement – $3,100

At the current time, two of the six lights are not working and probably cannot be replaced with the old type of light fixtures.

Smoky Valley After Prom (Mastermind) – After Prom 2024 – $500

We are asking for assistance to host an after-prom event to be held locally after the Smoky Valley High School Prom.

Mastermind McPherson County:

McPherson County Health Department – McPherson County Underserved Health Services Program – $10,000

The McPherson County Underserved Health Services Program will fund adult health services offered at the McPherson County Health Department for those who do not have health insurance and fall at 200%

Central Kansas Conservancy – Meadowlark Trail: McPherson to Lindsborg – $5,000

NAMI Kansas Inc. – “You Are Not Alone” Mental Health Support to McPherson, KS – $6,980

Funds from the Mastermind McPherson County Grant will allow NAMI Mid-Kansas to implement two new monthly support groups (one for those with mental illness symptoms and one for the loved ones of those with mental illness symptoms), recurring educational programs, and a consistent presence in McPherson County.

Parents and Teachers Together (PATT) – Parent Involvement with Families at Moundridge Elementary School – $1,000

The purpose of this project is to connect parents with other parents in their child’s grade level.

McPherson Coalition for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity – Leadership Literacy Library – $1,830

MCEID’s Leadership Literacy Library project is a one-time purchase of the books by Kansas Leadership Center for their leadership development materials.

McPherson Housing Coalition – McPherson Count Housing Study – $3,360

The housing study is the first step in getting the data needed to be able to apply for housing grants through Kansas Housing Resource Corporation. The housing study will allow the County as a whole to apply for grants to bring housing into each of the communities in McPherson County.

Canton 2030 – Beautify Downtown Canton – $9,700

Canton Downtown is in need of a new beautification theme that will unify its’ looks, make it more inviting to visitors, and give a sense of place for its’ citizens. The dream is to place a concrete planter every 25 feet on both sides of Main Street.

Marquette Chamber of Commerce – Marquette Main Thoroughfare Beautification – $8,750

The Marquette Chamber of Commerce would like to request assistance in greeting town residents and visitors in a way more fitting to our unique community.

The Inman Chamber of Commerce Inc – Inman Main Street Banners – $4,500

The Inman Chamber is replacing the current street banners located on the light poles on Main Street.
