Scholarship Recipients

2020 Recipients

The McPherson County Community Foundation and the Inman Community Foundation are pleased to announce the individuals selected to receive scholarships from various funds administered by the community foundations.

The following scholarships are being awarded for the 2018-2019 school year. Recipients may use the funds for tuition, books, or educational expenses.

Nancy Billings Family Education Scholarship – $1000

This is a fund established for women students seeking to attend a training school, college, or university to learn a new skill or trade in order to have a new start and direction in life. This is a one-year scholarship renewable for up to three years. At this time three (3) $1000 scholarships are available.

*Jessica Morel from Lindsborg High School plans to attend Fort Hays State University. 

Larry Wallace RN Scholarship  – $500

This scholarship is  open to graduates of Harvey, Marion, McPherson, Reno, Rice or Saline County pursuing Registered Nurse (RN) certification. To be eligible, applicants must be registered in the second year of an Associates degree nursing program or third year Bachelor of Science Nursing program and should be taking no less than six (6) credit hours per semester. Two (2) $500 scholarships will be awarded.

Raleigh Insurance Scholarship – $500 

This scholarship is open to Inman High School graduating seniors planning to pursue a degree in an agricultural or business related field.

* Rachel Harman from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

Canton-Galva Scholarship – $2,500

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending Canton-Galva High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

* Megan Maltbie from Canton-Galva plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.
* Jaycee Mastre from Canton-Galva plans to attend Bethel College.
*Braylee Doughman from Canton-Galva High School plans to attend Wichita State University.

Agatha Smyres Scholarship for service professions – $1000

This scholarship is for graduates of Inman High School who have completed 5 semesters of college and are working toward a degree in the service industry which could include: educators, clergy, social services, registered nursing, physical therapy, physician or dentistry. Criteria for eligibility include: average or above average achievements in college classes to date, financial need, potential to make an impact on others, and involvement in leadership and community service type activities.

*Elizabeth Wood from Inman High School plans to attend Wichita State University.

SAL Scholarship – $500

This scholarship is for Inman High School students and alumni who are interested in the Fine Arts and plan to continue Fine Arts study at the next level of education. Students with a GPA of 2.5 and above may apply. Financial need will be given strong consideration and should be addressed in the student’s application. Students may apply for this scholarship each year that they continue their education after high school.

*Dawn Gunter from Inman High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

Paul W. Davis Memorial Fund Scholarship – $750 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors of McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

*Cooper Courtney from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

First United Methodist Church Scholarship – $750 

This scholarship is available for graduating seniors who are active members of the First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kansas, in McPherson, Kansas.

*Jackson Schrader from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

*Hayden Schneider from McPherson High School plans to attend University of Denver.

Jay L. Frazier Scholarship – $1,500 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level with a preference in science.

*Kaytlynn Kuder from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

*Stacey Pham from McPherson High School plans to attend Washburn University.

Jay L. Frazier Scholarship – $500 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level with a preference in science.

*Elizabeth Evans from McPherson High School plans to attend Emporia State University.

*Elizabeth (Elle) Schrag from McPherson High School plans to attend Bethany College.

*Aislinn Hughes from McPherson High School plans to attend Emporia State University.

*Kollin Goering from McPherson High School plans to attend McPherson College.

*Jaycee Burghart from McPherson High School plans to attend Cloud County Community College.

*Kari Ellet from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

Hanson Family Educational Foundation Scholarship – $1,100 

This scholarship is available to assist an individual in attending post-secondary public (tax supported) institutions. Applicants must be residents of McPherson County.

* Hayden Schneider from McPherson High School plans to attend University of Denver.

Bob Hooper McPherson High School Basketball Scholarship – $1,000 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have attended McPherson High School for four years. Preference will be given to applicants who have been members of the MHS Basketball team during at least part of their high school careers, but are not required to continue playing basketball when they enter college.

* Andrea Sweat from McPherson High School plans to attend Washburn University.

Kansas American Tooling Scholarship – $750

This scholarship, in memory of Kenton Gearhart, was established for candidates living in McPherson County, Kansas. Candidates must intend to work in the plastics industry as a production worker, machinist or toolmaker, engineer or technologist/technician, business manager, or teacher of metal working tradesman.

*Ellen Flynn from Lindsborg High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

Kyle Jefferson McMannis Scholarship – $500 

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending one of the following Kansas high schools: Canton/Galva High School, Elyria Christian School, Wichita Northwest High School or St. John’s High School and who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

*Josie Deckinger from Canton-Galva plans to attend Kansas Wesleyan University.

*Richard Peterson from Caton-Galva plans to attend Missouri Welding Institute.

Gary McNaul Memorial Scholarship – $750 

This scholarship is open to McPherson High School graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to graduating seniors who have or are playing on McPherson High School’s Golf team.

*Rhett Edmonson from McPherson High School plans to attend Fort Hays State University.

McPherson Community Education Foundation – $500

*Christopher Malaby from McPherson High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

*Taylor Boesker from McPherson High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

Troy D. Hostetler Memorial Scholarship – $500

This scholarship is for graduates of Inman High School interested in an agriculture-related field of study. Other areas of study may also be considered. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of each applicant’s grades, ACT score, leadership, involvement throughout their years at Inman High School, and financial need.

*Kolby Blank from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

Inman Alumni Scholarship – $500

The Inman Alumni Scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Inman High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level.

*Lily Tatro from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University. 

Inman FFA Scholarship – $500

*Rachel Harman from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

*Jaxson Mead from Inman High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College. 

Chinberg-Eberle Memorial Nursing Scholarship – $1000

The Chinberg-Eberle Memorial Nursing Scholarship is open to members, and friends of members, of the First Christian Church of McPherson or Galva who are pursuing an education in the nursing profession, including but not limited to: CNA, CMA, RN, LPN, Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

*Cassie Flaming from Inman High School plans to attend Kansas State University.

Chinberg-Eberle Memorial Nursing Scholarship – $750

The Chinberg-Eberle Memorial Nursing Scholarship is open to members, and friends of members, of the First Christian Church of McPherson or Galva who are pursuing an education in the nursing profession, including but not limited to: CNA, CMA, RN, LPN, Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

*Addie Fitzmorris from McPherson High School plans to attend Fort Hays State University.

First Christian Church Educational Scholarship – $200

The First Christian Church Educational Scholarship is open to members, and friends of members, of the First Christian Church of McPherson or Galva planning to further their education beyond high school.

Jacey Sarah Cantrell Memorial Scholarship – $500

The Jacey Sarah Cantrell Memorial Scholarship is open to graduating seniors of Canton-Galva High School, and any student (home-schooled / online) who lives in the USD 419 district and who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. One (1) $500 scholarship will be awarded.

Kiwanis Club of McPherson Scholarship – $500

The Kiwanis Club of McPherson Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary public institution. Students must be residents of McPherson County. Three (3) $500 scholarships will be awarded.

*Katelyn Huddle from Elyria Christian School plans to attend Sterling College.
*Sam Pyle from McPherson High School plans to attend Hutchinson Community College.

Valeria Ann Gates Scholarship – $1000

The Valerie Ann Gates Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary public (tax supported) institution. Students must be residents of McPherson County. One (1) $1000 scholarships will be awarded.

*Elaina McMillan from Lindsborg High School plans to attend Western Michigan University.

Edwin R. Stucky Debate Scholarship – $1250

The Edwin R. Stucky Debate Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary public institution. Students must be residents of McPherson County. One (1) $1,250 scholarship will be awarded.

*Logan Hardgrave from McPherson High School plans to attend Kansas State University.
