18 Jan Community Foundation to host ninth annual match event
The McPherson County Community Foundation’s (MCCF) annual matching event enters its ninth year of helping build the endowments of local partnering non-profits. Match Week, formally known as Match Day, will take place during the week of Mar. 4-8. A total of $591,000 was raised during the event last year, a record for MCCF.
Since beginning in 2014 the event has raised over 2.5 million dollars. The change from a one-day event to an entire week, came after the record-breaking success of 2021. The Foundation determined more time gave organizations more opportunities.
“This event is an opportunity for organizations to build a strong endowment that will help with permanent funding,” Becky Goss, President and CEO of MCCF said, “They will receive immediate funding by leveraging the grant dollars.”
For 2024 $150,000 will be made available as the matching amount, an increase from previous years.
Matching funds are given to organizations based on a proportional basis. If $300,000 is raised during the week and an organization receives 10% of the total donations, they will receive $10,000 to use for immediate needs. The maximum an organization can receive in matching funds is $30,000 or 20% of the total match.
Required Minimum Distribution gifts can be made from your IRA to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution as long as a donation form is filled out by Mar. 8th. Funds from IRA accounts do not have to be transferred immediately and will be accepted by the foundation up until Dec. 31.
Donations to participating organizations can be given in-person at the MCCF office located at 1233 N. Main. MCCF holds office hours Mon.-Thu. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Online donations can be made through the Foundations website until midnight of Mar. 8 and mailed donations must be postmarked no later than Mar. 8.
A full list of organizations will be announced at a later date on foundation’s website: McPhersonFoundation.org
