MCCF to Host 12th Annual Norene Ketcherside Art Symposium and Teachers Workshop

The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) will host the 12th annual Norene Ketcherside Art Symposium and Teachers Workshop on July 24–25 at the McPherson Opera House.

The event is open to any Kansas K-12 educator who plans to incorporate art into their teaching. Educators who attend both days will be eligible for classroom grant awards, with amounts determined by overall attendance.

Registration must be submitted by July 18 to qualify for a grant. Space is limited to 40 participants.

This year’s theme is Investigating High-Quality Instruction Through Cross-Curricular, Concept-Based Learning. The goal of concept-based instruction is to help students apply their learning across different contexts and disciplines.

Since its launch in 2014, the symposium has grown to draw more than 30 educators annually from across the state—many of whom return year after year. Attendees often share that this type of free education is something that is rarely offered, and for most gives them ideas to take back to their own classrooms.

The 2025 workshop will feature three instructors with expertise in integrating art across subject areas:

  • Audra Krueger, 7th grade English language arts teacher at Clearwater Intermediate Middle School

  • Michal Austin, CTE graphic design instructor at Flinthills School District

  • Amanda Martin, art and museum educator, and director of the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum
