22 May This month in Foundation History and A look to the Future
In 2015, the McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) set an ambitious goal: raise its total assets to $24 million by 2020. The effort aimed to boost financial sustainability not only for the foundation itself but for nonprofit organizations throughout the county.
The community didn’t just respond—they exceeded expectations. By June 2020, the start of the foundation’s financial year, assets under management had surged to just over $33 million.
The campaign was built around three simple messages:
-
Growing for Good
- Services by local nonprofit organizations are a vital part of our communities. Their ability to provide these services is dependent on multi-faceted levels of funding and human resources.
-
Growing for You
- The Foundation can operate as a convener that connects your philanthropic interests with the organization and causes that we work with everyday.
-
Growing Forever
- Endowments are a permanent resource that communities and organizations can rely on.
Today, the Foundation’s total endowment stands at just over $50 million. This includes, funds supporting communities, nonprofits, and other designated causes. Among them is the Foundation’s unrestricted “Dream” Fund, a fund to support McPherson County as a whole, with a current endowment of $850,000.
MCCF’s current campaign, $2.5 for 25, aims to grow the Dream Fund to $2.5 million by the foundation’s 25th anniversary in 2026.
The Dream Fund supports a wide range of initiatives, including the foundation’s general grant cycle and the Mastermind McPherson County program. The fund is often first stop for community based projects seeking funding, with most submitting application to our general grants cycle.
In 2024 the Foundation saw a 58% funding gap from received grant applications .
“We want this fund to be bigger than the needs of our communities,” said Becky Goss, MCCF president and CEO. “When we named it the ‘Dream’ Fund, we meant it—it can truly support anything.”
A variety of assets, including cash, stock and real estate, may be contributed to the fund. Click here to contribute today.
The Foundation is also receiving pledges. All pledges should be fulfilled by Dec. 31, 2026. To make a pledge, visit here.
