Elementary Students Award Grants Through VIPs Program

The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) is proud to announce the recipients of grants awarded through its Voices in Philanthropy (VIPs) program. The initiative is designed to introduce McPherson County youth to the power of philanthropy and community impact.

For 2025, every fourth-grade student at Soderstrom Elementary in Lindsborg received $20 from the David J. Nutt Fund to direct toward local nonprofits of their choice. Students were allowed to split their $20 to any of the organizations that piqued their interest.

As part of the program, students learned about the role of nonprofits and how MCCF supports them through grants. They also had the chance to meet with local organizations during a nonprofit fair hosted at the school, where they asked questions and explored how each group serves the community. Students were also exposed to how there are often organizations that serve their special interests.

“We see the VIPs program as a way to get these students involved in their local community.” Program Associate Jessi Boughfman said, “We think that by introducing them to philanthropic activities early on, that they will be more likely to be involved as they grow.”

In total $1,420 will be released to five local organizations for their general use:
