09 Jul Moundridge Food Pantry Renovation Improves Access for Community
Last year, the Moundridge Community Foundation awarded a $6,600 grant to help the Moundridge Food Pantry renovate its exterior entrance.
The Moundridge Food Pantry operates out of the Moundridge Senior Center. While the Senior Center’s main entrance is clearly marked, the food pantry entrance had previously been just a plain exterior door, making it difficult for first-time visitors to locate.
The renovation included installing a new glass entry door, repainting portions of the exterior, and adding a window into the pantry. The new entrance makes the pantry much easier to identify, especially since the Senior Center’s main doors are often locked during the pantry’s operating hours. Door now also prominently displays the hours and days of operation.
The added window provides visibility into the pantry, allowing visitors to more easily tell when the pantry is open while also creating a brighter, more inviting space inside.
Emily Regier, director of the Moundridge Food Pantry, says the improvements have made a meaningful difference for both patrons and volunteers.
“Those visiting us have felt more welcome and more comfortable using our space,” Regier said. “Volunteers are able to enjoy a brighter space, but more importantly, there is an added feeling of safety with being able to see the parking lot and who is approaching the building.”
The improvements have not only enhanced the appearance of the facility but have also created a more welcoming, functional, and secure environment for everyone who uses the pantry.
