Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Welcome to the McPherson County Community Foundation Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) page. Operated by local site coordinators, the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. Assistance is by appointment only, with each appointment being 1 hour in duration. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Foundation at (620) 245-9070

New this year, the Foundation will also offer a drop-off option. Participants may leave their tax documents with a reviewer to be processed. Once returns are finished, individuals will be notified when they can pick up their completed tax documents. Identification, including a Social Security card and photo ID, is required at both drop-off and pickup. All tax documents, such as W-2s and 1099s, must be provided at drop-off. Drop offs will be accepted on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Am I qualified:

  • People who generally make $67,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Limited English-speaking taxpayer.
  • Seeking Tax returns for current year only.

Items needed at appointment (Without these items your appointment will be canceled):

  • Tax Information such as Forms W-2, 1099, 1098, 1095.
  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for all persons on your tax return
  • Picture ID (such as valid driver’s license) for you and your spouse
  • Previous years tax return
  • Completed intake form found here
