Scholarship Guidelines

All scholarship funds are to be used during the 2018-2019 school year and may be used for books, tuition or other related educational expenses. Additional eligibility requirements are listed with each scholarship.

All scholarship applicants are required to submit: a current transcript (after fall semester, please), a 1-page essay, and 1 letter of recommendation. These can be uploaded directly to your application or submitted to our office at 206 S. Main, McPherson, KS 67460.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships listed is January 31 each year.

The Chinberg-Eberle Memorial Nursing Scholarship is available to members, and friends of members, of the First Christian Church of McPherson or Galva who are pursuing an education in the nursing profession, which includes, but is not limited to, CNA, CMA, RN, LPN, Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Nursing. Awards will be distributed as follows: up to $500 for the first year; up to $750 for the second year; up to $1000 for the third year; and up to $1500 for the fourth year of a program for a total of up to $3750 per qualified person. Recipients would need to re-apply each year.

The First Christian Church Educational Scholarship is available to graduating seniors who are members of the McPherson First Christian Church planning to further their education beyond high school. The amount of the scholarship varies each year depending on the number of qualified seniors applying.

The Paul W. Davis Memorial Fund Scholarship is open to graduating seniors of McPherson High School  who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. One (1) $750 scholarship will be awarded.

The First United Methodist Church Scholarship is available for graduating seniors who are active members of the First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kansas, in McPherson, Kansas. Three (3) $750 scholarships will be awarded.

The Jay L. Frazier Scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending McPherson High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level with a preference in science. Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.

The Hanson Family Educational Foundation Scholarship is available to assist an individual in attending post-secondary public (tax supported) institutions. Applicants must be residents of McPherson County. Students planning on attending Emporia State University will be given first consideration in cases where all applicants have equal qualifications. One (1) $1,100 scholarship will be awarded.

The Bob Hooper McPherson High School Basketball Scholarship is open to graduating seniors who have attended McPherson High School for four years. Preference will be given to applicants who have been members of the MHS Basketball team during at least part of their high school careers, but are not required to continue playing basketball when they enter college. One (1) $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

The Kansas American Tooling Scholarship, in memory of Kenton Gearhart, was established for candidates living in McPherson County, Kansas. Candidates must intend to work in the plastics industry as a production worker, machinist or toolmaker, engineer or technologist/technician, business manager, or teacher of metal working tradesman. Applicants must be residents of McPherson County. One (1) $750 scholarship will be awarded.

The Kyle Jefferson McMannis Scholarship is open to graduating seniors attending one of the following Kansas high schools: Canton/Galva High School, Elyria Christian School, Wichita Northwest High School or St. John’s High School and who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. Two (2) $500 scholarships will be awarded.

The Gary McNaul Memorial Scholarship is open to McPherson High School graduating seniors who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to graduating seniors who have or are playing on McPherson High School’s Golf team. One (1) $750 scholarship will be awarded.

The Raleigh Insurance Scholarship is open to Inman High School graduating seniors planning to pursue a degree in an agricultural or business related field. One (1) $500 scholarship will be awarded.

The Larry Wallace RN Scholarship is open to graduates of Harvey, Marion, McPherson, Reno, Rice or Saline County pursuing Registered Nurse (RN) certification. To be eligible, applicants must be registered in the second year of an Associates degree nursing program or third year Bachelor of Science Nursing program and should be taking no less than six (6) credit hours per semester. Consideration will also be given to applicants involved in student nursing organizations and/or community health activities. One (1) $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

The Canton-Galva Scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Canton-Galva High School who plan to further their education at the post-secondary level
