16 Apr Foundation Grant Helps McPherson Middle School Update Computer Access

In October 2025, the McPherson County Community Foundation awarded a $4,500 grant to McPherson Middle School to help purchase computer carts for its core classrooms.
The grant came as the school announced a shift in its Chromebook policy. Beginning in January 2026, students moved away from carrying school-issued Chromebooks all semester. Instead, devices are now distributed only when needed for classroom instruction. This transition created a need for secure storage and charging carts for core classes.
According to Sarah Corcoran, McPherson Middle School social studies lead and teacher, the grant allowed the school to purchase enough carts for each core classroom, along with several that can rotate between additional learning spaces.
Cochran said the change has helped teachers use technology more intentionally and create a better balance between digital and hands-on learning.
“It allows us to step away from technology at times,” Corcoran said. “These devices feel more like a learning tool rather than a distraction.”
The new carts also include built-in charging ports, eliminating the common problem of dead batteries and ensuring devices are ready when needed.
“It’s important that we can bring them out for a specific purpose and then put them away,” Corcoran said. “Students are definitely more engaged.”
