Last week, the Moundridge Community Foundation awarded a $20,000 matching grant to the Moundridge Lions Club to support the replacement of public playground equipment.
The project, originally proposed by Nate Martens, will be located at Black Kettle East Park and will replace the park’s aging playground equipment.
The new playground, along with a fund established through the foundation to support its construction and long-term maintenance, will be named in memory of Maddie Kaufman. Maddie was described as an extraordinary young woman whose joy, kindness and bright spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
In a post announcing the creation of the fund, the Lions Club said, “This playground is more than equipment and structures. It is a reflection of Maddie’s legacy and a testament to what can be built when a community comes together with purpose and heart.”
The grant from the Moundridge Community Foundation will match community contributions, helping increase the impact of donations made toward the project. The fund’s current goal is $150,000 to cover the cost of replacing the playground and establishing resources for future maintenance and upkeep.
