23 Jul Foundation History: Match Day raises $145K for local groups
Over the years, the McPherson County Community Foundation’s matching events have grown significantly through larger matching pools, more participating organizations, and longer giving periods. One thing, however, has remained the same: the Foundation’s commitment to investing in the future of McPherson County’s nonprofit organizations.
This year, the Foundation’s countywide matching opportunity has expanded into a month-long event running from Oct. 10 through Nov. 10. For the first time, the affiliate foundation matching campaigns in Inman, Marquette, and Moundridge will also take place concurrently, creating one unified month of giving across the county.
As this year’s event approaches, we’re looking back at the countywide Match Day from 10 years ago. In 2016, the event featured just 22 participating funds and took place during a single day of giving, highlighting how much the program has grown over the past decade.

The McPherson County Community Foundation (MCCF) had another successful Match Day this year, with more than $100K pledged to the 22 participating organizations. In addition to the money pledged, the MCCF awarded $5,000 in prizes and $40K in matching grants. Matching dollars were made possible by the Community Fund. This is the Foundation’s unrestricted pool of funds designed to meet needs as they happen.
This is the third year MCCF has held a Match Day. “Our three donation and matching grants total over $500,000 for McPherson County. This is an incredible amount of money generated in basically 33 hours for our local organizations. McPherson County residents should be proud of their generosity,” Becky Goss, president and CEO, said.
Prizes were awarded for the largest number of walk-in donors; the largest number of online donors; two random act of kindness prizes; and the largest number of new donors. They include The Cedars, $250; Circles of McPherson County, $1,250; McPherson Hospital, $500; Meals on Wheels, $1,000; Opera House, $1,000; YMCA, $1,000.
The pledge/prize allocations are as follows: 4H Development, $1,389.27; Council on Aging, $1,749.89; Arts Alliance, $5,389.67; MHS Band, $10,219.37; CASA, $2,384.87; Community Thanksgiving Dinner, $3,954.76; The Cedars, $7,074.58; Circles, $18,930.92; Education Foundation, $1,469.91; Food Bank, $6,488.60; McPherson Hospital, $7,345.58; Giving Hope Cancer Fund, $5,417.61; Meals on Wheels, $7,327.61; Mt. Hope Sanctuary, $3,723.77; McPherson Library, $8,259.49; McPherson Museum, $8,259.49; Opera House, $9,826.46; Parks & Public Lands, $699.96; Scouting, $6,649.59; United Way, $3,382.61; WACCC, $15,367.98; YMCA, $9,959.45.
