23 Apr David J. Nutt Fund Announces Legacy Grant Recipients
The David J. Nutt Fund, administered by the McPherson County Community Foundation, has announced recipients for its annual Legacy grant round. In 2026, the fund will distribute $313,100 to five Lindsborg-area organizations.
Legacy grants are designed to create long-term impact in the Lindsborg community by funding projects that organizations might not otherwise afford. Applications are reviewed by the fund’s grant committee, which also considers input from a community survey to guide funding decisions.
2026 Legacy Grant Recipients:
Smoky Valley Historical Association — Coronado Heights Safety and Infrastructure Match — $125,000
This grant will provide the required local match to secure matching funds through the KDOT Cost Share project to implement permanent drainage and hillside stabilization solutions. Additional work will address vandalism, infrastructure wear, and visitor safety, preserve the historic site and ensure Coronado Heights remains a resilient cultural and recreational destination for the Lindsborg community and the State of Kansas.
Viking Field Project — Facility Project Phase II — $70,000
Phase II will upgrade field lighting by adding two new light poles. Bleachers will be improved with a new concrete platform, and a press box will be added at the top of the bleachers to maximize available space around the field.
Lindsborg Child Development Center — Equipment for Expense Reduction — $17,600
This project will help reduce operating costs so the center can maintain current pricing and avoid passing additional expenses on to families. Funding will support the purchase of maintenance equipment, a storage building, and replacement kitchen equipment. These upgrades will allow volunteers to assist with facility upkeep and reduce reliance on contractors and ongoing equipment repairs.
Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church — Community Food Program — $32,500
This grant will fund facility upgrades needed to bring the church’s space into compliance with health and safety codes. Improvements include kitchen updates with professional-grade equipment and upgrades to the Dala Pantry door. These changes will help expand and strengthen the church’s community food programming.
Lindsborg Community Library — Building Project Phase II — $68,000
This grant will support updates to the library’s plumbing, lighting, and HVAC systems to improve comfort and amenities for visitors. The project also includes remodeling the teen space to create a more welcoming environment for youth patrons.
About the David J. Nutt Fund:

The fund was established in 2017 with a $7.5 million gift from the estate of David J. Nutt, a former Lindsborg resident who credited the community with shaping his life. His endowment created a permanent resource to support organizations working to improve the lives of Lindsborg residents.
The first round of grants was awarded in 2018, with $25,000 going to 12 organizations. Since then, the fund’s impact has steadily grown. In 2019, it awarded $205,500 in grants. In 2025, the fund awarded over $400,000 , pushing its total giving past $2.5 million.
The David J. Nutt Fund continues to show the lasting power of endowments and generosity. Thanks to David Nutt’s gift, Lindsborg is forever changed for the better.
